Jack Blanchard

Name: Jack Blanchard

Position: Scrum half/Fly half/Ball playing forward

When did you join #TeamRoundheads?

I joined The Roundheads at the first ever training session.

Did you have any experience playing rugby before? And what attracted you to rugby?

I come from a Rugby League background playing for Skirlaugh Bulls.I played for around 8 years and then went onto play Union for a couple of years while at Wyke Sixth Form College.

Why do you think there is a need for Inclusive Rugby?

Having played and been a part of team sport for a big part of my life I know what enjoyment that can bring. Rugby in both codes, with people like Gareth Thomas and Keegan Hirst prove that it can be done but having that place for the LGBT guys to be in safe and non-discriminatory environment can be a huge advantage.

What have you enjoyed the most about being a Roundhead and what is your favourite memory so far?

Playing Rugby a sport that I have missed is great. Being a part of a team again is even better.

What does being part of the Roundheads mean to you?

I think like alot of the players it means alot more to us then we ever thought it was going to. Even after less than 3 months together it feels like a family already.

Finally, to anyone reading this who is thinking of joining with experience or no experience playing rugby, but who haven’t yet decided to #ruckwithus, what would you say to them?

I couldn’t recommend it highly enough. The progression I have seen from players that had never even picked up a rugby ball before in their life is huge. But most importantly the enjoyment, fitness, laughs, friendship, family that is being formed should make anybody think ‘Why not?’ I did and haven’t looked back since.
